Hey. Maybe instead of going in for Film Studies you should go for acting. Film studies is basically just a study of the history of film. It's more for people who are wanting to be film critics and such. But if you are already in college for acting then I would try film production. I would say majoring in film productions is a lot SAFER than going into acting because there is always need for a crew member.
Try going out for plays. Can you put those on your demo reels if someone tapes them?
It is a good idea to attend a college in a area that has lots of modeling and acting opportunities. The west coast is good for that. New York is good too but if you could I would attend a college out west. There are always more independent films made out there where you can get some experience.
All my best.
i hear that people want to do ';acting/modeling'; all the time, but they are two very different things! the idea that they are the same or tie together is a myth. modeling takes up all your time, and so does acting. also, agencies (at least the reputable ones) dont represent models/actors- only one or the other. models have a very strict set of requirements they must meet physically (males must be at the very least 5'11, but preferably taller- as tall as 6'2), fit the sample size clothing, which is usually the same for every designer/brand, which means you have to have specific measurements and wear a certain size. your face also has to be what they are looking for, along with perfect skin, teeth, etc. actors have a totally different set of requirements, almost none of them physical. i model part-time now, since im in grad school, but i have to dedicate a ton of my time to modeling still; when i did it full-time it was all modeling, all the time- whether it be meeting with potential clients, actually working, being measured- whatever. most models cant get work without an agency representing them, and that means they must beat out tens of thousands of other wannabe models who are trying to get signed. if you want to be in movies, saying you have modeling experience wont help you- in fact it may hurt you. ';serious'; actors arent really as respected if they are models; and the same goes the other way. stick to auditioning for student films, community theater, etc if you want to be involved with film
