Ive been taking Lexapro for a little over 6 months now for depression and anxiety. I was on a 10mg dose for about the first 3 months then bumped up to a 20mg dose which is what I am currently taking. It has helped but at a very very slow pace. I still have episodes of anxiety and depression, and occasional relapses, each seems less severe then the previous but they still suck. Should I still be experiencing the symptoms or having the relapses? This is all very new to me and Lexapro is the only medication I have tried, would it possibly be beneficial to try another med such as Paxil, Zoloft, etc.? My mom suffers from depression and anxiety, she has been on Paxil for the last 6-7 years and it has worked fantastic for her, she doesnt experience anything ive mentioned above after taking it. I just desperatley want to get my normal life back, any advice, help, or similar experiences would be greatly appriciated. Not Certain about Lexapro, need advice/help.?
you should be talking to the psychiatrist...lexapro is generally an antidepressant, if you are experiencing anxiety ask about Kolonapin in addition to the Lexapro. Wellbutrin also compliments lexapro as an antidepressant. But anyone prone depression may experience lulls through a time period. Seasonal changes are especially difficult for people with any mood disorder. The winter months can do some damage even being on the right meds and dosages for you.
Just bcuz it worked for your mom doesn't mean it will work for you. I prefer the old standbys that they prefer NOT to prescribe anymore , Elivil (sp?) is fabulous for an antidepression med and there r handfuls of anti anxiety meds out there as well. Effexor works fantastic for anxiety but you tend to put on water weight over time. I didn't want to leave my house for any reason but knew I needed to. I was placed on Effexor along with 2 antidepressants and something to help me sleep. When the effexor kicked in, i felt like myself again. It was great!! I stayed on that for about 1 1/2 years and was tired of gaining wait and weaned myself off...horible going off meds (withdrawals). But I take wellbutrin and Lexapro as well as klonapin(sp?) and with the situation I am in with my children, I also have an outlet that I enjoy. if I didn't have the outlet the meds wouldn't help too much. Not Certain about Lexapro, need advice/help.?
