My wife and me immigrated to us from Colombia (S.A.) on 2002, we came with stdent visas but after they expired we decided to stay here illegaly due to the bad situation in colombia at that time.
Now, this situation is driving us crazy (persecution, lack of work, discrimination and racism). we plan to leave this place ASAP and we are considering going to Canada.
My question is:
Wold be possible to apply for a politic assylum or a legal status there, with our current us status?
In general therms, would be possible to settle us there?

you can only apply to Canada if you are legally resident in the country where you are. since you are not legally resident, then I do not beleive you will qualify.
also you must have proof that your lives are in danger in Columbia - and since you have been out of the country for 6 years - you will not have any recent proof.

and this is for refugees,
No. Don't try it. You likely will be rejected by the Canadians and reported to the US officials.
