Military wives: need advice/help for my first military ball?

I am going to my first military ball in October. This is for the Military Police Corps birthday. How would this type of ball be different from any other type, for example for the branch's (Army) birthday or one after homecoming?

I've never been to one before and don't know what to expect. I have heard a lot of different things from different people. Is there anything where I would have to stand, etc?

My husband is a Cpl and will be wearing his class A's. Who specifically has to stand in the ';receiving line';? Would we be included or not?

Is getting a long dress (ankle to floor length) the best bet for dressing appropriately? Should I try to select a color that won't clash with his Class A's?

Sorry if the questions sound kind of stupid, I just have no idea.

Military guys are welcome to answer too as long as they are helpful.Military wives: need advice/help for my first military ball?
Usually officers stand in t he receiving line and if you go to the drinks ahead of the dinner then you will be standing around solicilizing with drink in hand. Going thru the receiving line, shakign hands, then yes you will be standing the whole time you are shaking hands wilth the officers and their spouces.Military wives: need advice/help for my first military ball?
Woman tend to over dress at these event. If you are going to wear a long dress make sure you can sit in it and that you can walk and dance in it. i seen dresses where chee-chees are having out and slits so high that you can easily see butt tissue. Then, again I have seen who wear a fancy blouse, skirt and high heels. The majority of the dresses are prom like dresses. Just be sure you will be happy with the dress,be comfortable.be absolutely stunning and most of all don't spent a fortune for one evening.
